Have a funeral slideshow made, or make it yourself?

Having a funeral slideshow made or making it yourself: both are possible, and the best choice depends on your time, your peace of mind and how much of yourself you want to put into it. There are three routes. You make the presentation yourself with our tool, you have us make it, or you arrange it through your funeral director. Below we set them out honestly side by side.

Route 1: make it yourself with the tool

You build the running order from blocks: entrance, speakers, music with photos, video and the final farewell. You upload the photos and the music, and the tool matches the time per photo to the length of each song. At the end you download a PowerPoint file, an order of service PDF and an instruction document for the operator at the venue.

The advantage is that you decide for yourself, right down to the last photo. Many families find it especially meaningful to build the presentation together around the kitchen table. You can also collaborate remotely, for example with a brother or sister who lives further away. You can see exactly how it works on how it works.

Running order in blocks for making a funeral presentation yourself

Allow a few hours of work, most of it spent choosing photos and music. Putting it together goes quickly once everything is ready.

Route 2: have us make it

If you would rather not do it yourself, we can make the presentation for you on request. You send us the photos, the music and the running order, and we put it together. What is possible and what it costs, we agree with you depending on your situation; get in touch with us to discuss the options.

Have you already started yourself and is it becoming too much? Then you do not need to start again. Through Collaborate in the tool you invite support@funeral-ppt.com into your own presentation. Send us the running order of the service and the photos via WeTransfer or a similar service. We then carry on where you left off. We agree this with you beforehand as well.

Please note: with this route, too, you choose the photos and the music yourself. That is the part nobody can take over from you. What we save you is the technical work and checking the timing and order.

Route 3: through the funeral director

Many funeral directors help with a presentation, but how that works varies widely. Some make the presentation themselves or have a regular partner for it. Others give you a template or ask you to provide a ready-made file. Simply ask at your first meeting what they offer and what it costs.

What the funeral director usually arranges for sound and vision

The funeral director usually agrees with the venue which room you will have and for how long. Whether there is a screen, a projector and a sound system depends on the venue. Many chapels and crematoria have them, but it varies from room to room. Who operates the presentation during the service (someone from the venue, a member of the funeral director's team or a family member) varies too.

So always ask:

  • How and when the presentation needs to be delivered to the venue.
  • Whether the venue uses Microsoft PowerPoint on Windows or Mac.
  • Who will press the button during the service.

You can read more about this in how to deliver a funeral presentation to the venue.

When having it made is the better fit

Making it yourself is not always the best choice. We recommend having it made if:

  • the funeral is in one or two days and you still have lots of other things to arrange;
  • nobody in the family feels comfortable working with files and timing;
  • the loss is so heavy that looking through and sorting photos is too much for you right now;
  • lots of different people have photos and wishes, and you would rather let one person make the final call.

On the other hand, making it yourself works well if you have the time and like being involved yourself. Many people find that choosing photos is also a way of looking back. Then it is good that you keep it in your own hands.

What you always do yourself

Whichever route you choose, three things are up to you. You choose the photos, you choose the music and you decide the order of the service. How many photos you need per song can be worked out with the table in how many photos you need for a funeral slideshow. If photos still need collecting from family or old prints need scanning, read about collecting and digitising photos for the funeral.

Ideally, start at least three days before the funeral. Venues often want the presentation 24 hours in advance, and sometimes earlier at the weekend. You will find the full step-by-step guide in making a funeral presentation, step by step.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to have a funeral slideshow made?

Having us make a presentation is possible on request; the price depends on your situation. You send us the photos, music and running order. If you would like to know what it costs, get in touch with us. Through a funeral director the cost varies from one to the next, so ask them.

Can I start it myself and have it finished later?

Yes. If you have started in the tool and would like us to finish it, please get in touch. Then invite support@funeral-ppt.com through Collaborate and send us the running order and the photos via WeTransfer or a similar service. We will then look together at what still needs doing.

Does the funeral director always make a presentation?

No, that varies from one funeral director to another. Some make it themselves, others ask you to provide a file. Ask at your first meeting, so you know in good time where you stand.

How long does it take to make a funeral slideshow yourself?

Allow a few hours. Most of the work is in choosing the photos and music. Once those are ready, you can build it in the tool in half an hour to an hour.
